Guidelines for the NF Summer Camp Program
Background:
BCNF has operated a summer camp program for children with Neurofibromatosis since 1999. This program makes arrangements and pays the costs of providing up to five children with camp scholarships each summer.
For the children who attend this unique camp it is often the first time they have had the opportunity to be with others with the disorder. Many of the youth have said that this is a positive “life altering experience”.
The purpose of this summer program is to assist:
- children with NF to access a safe and fun environment where friendships and lifelong memories can be made;
- increase self-confidence and independence;
- a widened circle of friends;
- freedom of choice and self-expression; and
- a chance to enjoy some fresh air and learn new skills
Funding Available:
Funding for this program is provided by a private family donation and in part by the Province of British Columbia. Depending on the level of funding available in a calendar year, the BCNF will endeavor to provide as many children the opportunity to attend camp.
Scholarship Management:
Scholarships are awarded based on a lottery system and managed by the organization’s Program Coordinator. However, priority is given to any first-time campers who apply. Depending on the level of funding available, efforts will be made to award scholarships to all campers who apply, including those wishing to attend camp for a consecutive time.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for a camp scholarship:
